About Zhejiang Gongshang University

Zhejiang Gongshang University (ZJSU) was formerly known as Hangzhou Secondary Business School established in 1911. Over her history of more than one century, the institution used to be relocated 12 times and renamed 16 times. However her name has ever been linked with “business” as the institution is constantly featured with its business programs. Adhering to the strategy of “Building up a Strong Institution with Distinguishing Characteristics”, Zhejiang Gongshang University had committed to training a group of application-oriented, composite and innovative high-level talents who are featuring “Big Business”. In 2015 Zhejiang Gongshang University became a well-known university of finance and economics in China co-established by “Two Ministries and One Provincial Government” (the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Commerce and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province).

Zhejiang Gongshang University possesses 9 faculties including Management, Economics, Engineering, Literature, Law, Science, History, Philosophy and Arts, 3 Level-A Doctorial Level Disciplines, 18 level-B doctorial level disciplines, 13 level-A master level disciplines, 69 level-B master level disciplines, 12 master categories of postgraduate professions (covering 21 recruitment areas) and 3 mobile Post-doctoral stations. In the Year 2012 Subject Evaluation of the Ministry of Education, a total of six Level-A disciplines including Accounting, Business Administration, Applied Economics, Theoretical Economics, Law, Food Science & Engineering were ranked as tier 1 among the provincial universities of Zhejiang.

Zhejiang Gongshang University possesses a number of high-level teaching and scientific research platforms particularly the Modern Business Research Center (a key research base of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education), Zhejiang Merchants Research Center (a key research base of Philosophy and Social Sciences of Zhejiang) and Zhejiang Merchants Museum (one of the first Overseas Chinese International Cultural Communication Bases of All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese), which has turned out as a robust support for the MBA programs with Zhejiang Merchants features.

Profile of MBA School

MBA School of Zhejiang Gongshang University is an independent department of teaching administration in the university. Over the period of more than one decade, we follow the principle of MBA School “Pragmatic, Ethical and Harmonious ” , hold the education philosophy “To integrate excellence in commerce with global management know-how based on the accumulation of a century’s business wisdom for the purpose of benefiting society, organizations and individuals”, devote to the School’s Mission “To further enrich our Global-Local business management acumen and cultivate our business leaders with strong sense of social responsibility and outstanding qualities of leadership” and share the School’s Vision “To be the partner for entrepreneurship and innovation and the platform for development of Zhejiang Merchants”. We have set up educational objectives of “rooting in Zhejiang Merchants’ Innovation and Business Start-up Practices and developing business leaders with sense of social responsibility, exploration spirit, international vision, local advantages, strategic thinking and perfect execution abilities” and been committed to building the education feature of “rooted in Zhejiang Merchants, study Zhejiang Merchants, and unlock the potential of Zhejiang Merchants”.  

The MBA School is located in Zhejiang province located in eastern China, which is the most developed and dynamic economic zone in China. The unique geographic advantages and the active group of Zhejiang Merchants have laid the foundation for development of the School’s programs. The regional political, economic, cultural and social environment full of business entrepreneurship and innovation together with the rich historical and cultural heritage has provided rich resources for building our education feature- “Zhejiang Merchants”.  The extremely dynamic regional entrepreneurship and innovation activities have contributed comprehensive materials and cases to the School’s teaching and research, as well as provide students with a platform of grow-up and a large number of opportunities of practicing.

About the Educational Programs

Zhejiang Gongshang University MBA School is currently providing three educational programs including Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Project Management (MPM) and Executive Development Program (EDP).

Master of Business Administration (MBA) Program

In 2003, the School was approved to operate pilot MBA program and in 2009 the institution passed the qualification evaluation of pilot programs with excellent results. This program adheres to the mission of “Combining management wisdom domestically and internationally, Inheriting the business start-up spirit of Zhejiang Merchants, Setting up a platform for both sides to grow-up and Supporting the Society’s Sustainable Development”, making it about the goal of “rooting in Zhejiang Merchants’ Innovation and Business Start-up Practices and developing business leaders with sense of social responsibility, exploration spirit, international vision, local advantages, strategic thinking and perfect execution abilities” and highlighting the teaching features of “Relying on the One-hundred-year-old Well-known universities of finance and economics, rooting in the regional business culture, Training Process integrating knowledge and practice and live-long-enjoyed education services. So far the institution has developed more than 2000 excellent MBA Graduates.

Based on Zhejiang Province, the MBA Program caters to the Yangtze Delta Region and puts as primary target customers the medium and basic core personnel of large and medium enterprises in financial insurance, sale service, manufacture, IT and electronic commerce industries or medium and high level managers of medium and small enterprises with good potential of growth. They are well-educated with work experiences of many years, with demand for updated and more systematic management knowledge, cultivating and mastering stronger abilities of finding out, analyzing and solving problems, constantly improving their accountability and quality and seeking better development of the enterprises and their own career.

Master of Project Management Program

In 2003 the School was approved to co-operate with the Université du Québec of Canada on running Master of Project Management Program and in 2013 the institution passed the qualification evaluation of Sino-Foreign Cooperative Education Program with excellent results. So far the institution has cultivated more than 1000 outstanding MPM graduates.

As it was predicated by the American magazine “Fortune”, project management would become the best profession of the 21st century while as it was predicted by Chinese experts, the 21st century would be the era of project management. The program co-operator the Université du Québec is one of the universities accredited by the PMI (Project Management Institute of the United States, the world’s largest and most authoritative project management organizations) and one of the only three universities having attained the MPM doctoral degree admission qualification in the north American region. This program aims to train a number of project management experts mastering economic market laws, being familiar with the international project operation rules and able to effectively manage the whole process of projects in different scales.

Executive Development Program

Supported by Zhejiang Gongshang University’s one-century accumulated experience in business studies, training experiences of the MBA School’s MBA and MPM programs for more than one decade, with outstanding teaching resources of the University, Zhejiang Gongshang University establishes a fantastic team composed of excellent experts, professors, successful entrepreneur mentors from China and abroad, government officials and professional trainers. Setting up customized courses according to actual needs of the enterprises, under guidance of the enterprises’ strategies and demands for talents and adhering to the interactive principles of research, teaching and practice, the institution implemented the customized mode of compulsory core MBA courses plus the elective courses relevant with enterprises, provided customized, stratified and diverse teaching products, effectively strengthened and consolidated professional knowledge and professional quality of staff and offered powerful human resource backup for development of enterprises.
