When it comes to MBA, perhaps just like me, the first thought that fleshes in most people’s mind is “Harvard Business School Case”! This time, a compressive case study all in English really appears in Technology and Business University campus!
From December 15 to 22, 2015, Dr. Julian Lowe, Professor of Strategy Management Canterbury Christ Church University UK gave a fascinating Compressive Case Study course for MBA students. In the learning process of 6 days, Professor Julian Lowe led the students to discuss cases of Alibaba, Apple, Haier, Nike and other well-known companies, enabling students to make actual analysis and help enterprises improve operational capability from perspective of strategy management actually!
Classroom teaching is of various forms; particularly form of leaderless group discussion+ coordination of teacher has been warmly welcomed by the students. In the class, students spoke enthusiastically and made very positive discussion with foreign teacher through case analysis. After class, all students reflected that they liked teaching methods of Professor Julian Lowe very much and his Western way of thinking full of logicality opened new ways for students’ work and life.
Below are voices of students on site:
It is not an easy thing for me with poor oral English to attend case analysis course for the first time. Perhaps taking into account effect of learning, the teachers change the seating arrangements into “group” mode, which is more beneficial to promote communication and thinking collision of group members who can help each other and improve learning efficiency on occurrence of the part where can not be understood or be clearly expressed in English. Teachers’ humorous teaching style and approachable teaching methods arouse my learning interest to great extent. So to speak, this course, in my opinion, is a process of mutual help and mutual promotion. Thanks to all teachers and students!

Compressive Case Study course is a very challenging and very practical course. In addition to analysis of current popular cases, it is more about exploration and opinion sharing from different perspectives, different industries and even different cultural backgrounds and fierce thinking collision is the most meaningful gain. We are impressed by specialty and professionalism of foreign teachers who provide, in addition to cooperation with each other in verbal communication, a number of practical methods to analyze problems from a professional prospective and share the opinions and experience. It is stressful in the course, requiring being careful and concentrating, but we get a lot indeed. I hope to have more chances to attend similar case sharing course and learn to meet practical needs

By participating in Professor Julian Lowe’s course, I have a relatively superficial strategic thinking logic, have a holistic understanding of analysis, decision-making and implementation, and understand importance of strategy and setting method and management methods of strategy as well; I would say that I have great harvest and improve a lot. The course creatively explores strategic management through case analysis to help us solve the following two problems: how to make managers learn the most advanced enterprise operation and management philosophy more effectively? How can companies use the most advanced operation and management mode quickly?

I have to say that offering of Compressive Case Study course leaves an impression on newly enrolled MBA student ourselves! Originally, this is the core value of the MBA curriculum and what we should be in-depth study in the course. Analyzing and commenting on classic business strategy management cases as courseware can help business managers and related staff have a more comprehensive understanding of the valuable experience and lessons in business and strategic management practices, both at home and abroad, over the years which are of great practical value to guide future development of their enterprises.

I am glad that I chose this course—Comprehensive Case Study. I’ve heard that case study is a very important class for MBA study, especially for Strategy Management. Through this course I have got the chance to learn how to analyze case and get key points, Professor Julian is a very patient teacher; he teaches us how to find the right way to answer all questions related to cases.
It’s not good to give comments by looking at the surface. We should dig into it, read financial reports and analyze the data, and then we’re able to judge if a new action would work well or not.
Jiang Nanlan from Class 3 in Autumn, 2015
After learning the Comprehensive Case Study, we have a deep and new understanding of the MBA course, we all believe that this is the value of MBA, this is what we should learn and master. Take the business strategy management case analysis as course reviews, it can effectively help business managers and related persons to build up more comprehensive understanding on the valuable experience and lessons home and abroad, the success or failure of these predecessors is of great practical value to guide their own future development of their enterprises.

Honestly,it is really exciting for me to attend the course of “Comprehensive Case Study” these days.
Although it is chilly outside, we are warmly talking about the cases in reality, such as APPLE、ALIBABA and so on. Professor Julian Lowe is really kind to us. He never criticizes us even if we fail to understand accurately, instead he encourages us to speak out our ideas and learn to discuss with others. Just as the saying goes, “Two heads are better than one genius!” I really feel the power of brainstorm through teamwork!
Yao Keqin from Class 3 in Autumn, 2015
The lesson of Strategy Management is very interesting. It gives us knowledge and skills necessary to think and act more strategically. Professor Julian is an amiable and intellectual person. The samples he gives us are typical and worthy of learning. They broaden my horizon and train my mode of thinking. I begin to focus on the strategies of famous world companies and try to use them in my daily work. Also, as a customer, I can understand enterprises’ intention and buy products more cautiously. I hope MBA School can provide us with more lessons like this. Then we can gain more practical experience.
